Game 5 Delayed...Again
October 28th 2008 18:09
Game 5 of the 2008 World Series has been delayed again due to inclement weather.
Bud Selig and the rest of Major League Baseball have been monitoring the weather for Philadelphia and it won't get any better until around 4pm Wednesday.
So, the game has been pushed back to 8:37pm on Wednesday night in Philadelphia. Selig also made it clear that there would be no travel to Florida until game five is complete.
The Phillies will bat in the bottom of the sixth inning with the game tied 2-2 and the Phillies leading the series 3-1.
Grant Balfour is on the mound for the Rays and Cole Hamels is due up first. He will be replaced by a pinch hitter...more than likely either Greg Dobbs or Matt Stairs.
The grounds crew did all they could to keep the playing field safe on Monday night but the heavy rains and the strong wind gusts helped to create an unsafe playing surface riddled with puddles.
So, once the series resumes, the Phillies will be at the plate looking to regain the lead in the game and hopefully capture their first title since 1980 and the city's first title since 1983 when the Sixers won the NBA Championship.
