Not many people can believe what took place on Wednesday night in South Philadelphia, not even Phillies fans,
But it is all true; the Phillies are World Series Champions for 2008!
The Phillies knocked off the Rays 4-3 en route to a 4 games to 1 World Series win. It is the team's first title since 1980 and the city's first major sports title since the Sixers won it all in 1983.
The parade on Friday October 31st drew over 3 million fans from the Delaware Valley and around the country.
Many fans that have moved away from the area and could find a way back home did just that to celebrate the city's biggest win in its history.
The curse, if there really was one, of William Penn is finally broken.
The Phillies are World Champions of Baseball.
Cole Hamels was named Series MVP and Brad Lidge struck out Eric Hinske to end the game and clinch the title. Lidge finished the 2008 season, playoffs included, 48 for 48 in saves.
The free agent filing period continues until November 13th and the signing period begins the next day.
