Opening day, eyes on the batters

Pitcher yells "Next time, I won't miss you"
And game carries on, just like normal
Same old game, but game don't get old
Sit back, watch the season unfold
162 games and it'll all be done
But the 09 season, was no normal one
VERSE 1:
So here it begins with the multimillionaires
Start with the Yankees, cause hell, I don't care
They spent big bucks to bring in the guys
Tex, AJ, CC with a side with fries
And it paid off when they went all the way
27th ring was on no delay
Cause the World Series, that's what it's all about
Chase chases Jackson on balls hit out
Pedro returns but leaves very quickly
Cause Godzilla comes out and goes Hideki
Maybe that's why he won MVP
6 RBIs? That's just crazy!
But enough about the World Series, on to other teams
The ones that had high hopes, but lost their dreams
The Mets and Cubs, they just collapsed
Chicago got sick of Milton Bradley's crap
Got angry throwing bases and baseball bats
Mets got hurt, they lost all their chances
All while Manny was on drug enhancements

Chien Ming Wang didn't come back
Worse, he just got hit and smacked
And closer Papelbon came in for the save

Facing a sweep, it was the best on the hill
But then all Boston got awfully still
When a single was hit and scored 2
Came off the bat of Bobby Abreu

This season's been great, but not all happy
Only one thing removed all the nice glee
He was an angel on and off the field
It happened really early on, in April
He faced an injury that could not be healed
Young pitcher with dreams to fulfill
On the ninth of April, those were trashed
Nick Adenhart died in a car crash
He was only 22 and a big prospect
Finished his career 1-0, he was perfect
He was not saved, nor resurrected
His car was smashed, but hopes were wrecked
Take a moment to pay your respects
A great man, beyond the average player
He loved the game, so give a prayer
Nick and your family, I wish you well
We will all remember the Angel who fell
So in your memory, we go down on our knees
